“Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, as we understood (God), praying only for knowlege of (God’s) will for us and the power to carry that out.”
I have to ask myself a few questions here:
- What exactly is my conscious contact with God?
- What’s my understanding of God; and is that even a possibility?
- What am I in the habit of praying for?
- How much power do I have to carry out the ‘will of God’ (Once I get a clue about what that is.)
There’s a mirror above the hat in this picture. Take a moment to reflect on your interpretation of the wording of Step 11. It matters less what others tell you 11 means than what you actually believe it means. How would you reword Step 11 for yourself?
For me, this Step, more than the others, requires my hanging up a lot of things: preconceived notions about God, religious differences with others, denial of deep heart pain and spiritual insecurities…even my definition of prayer.
Are you ready to hang it up and be still?
If home is where you hang your hat, then Step 11 is where you hang everything else, including your halo.
